History

Although ACL have been in the current building, with its purpose-built laboratories, since 1990, its experience of calibration goes back to 1985 when it acquired a small electronic service company in Washington which had a small basic calibration facility operating under the old BS5750.

It soon became apparent that UKAS (NAMAS in those days) Accreditation was the way forward and new premises were needed which could meet the strict requirements of UKAS, and the Team Valley site was selected for its excellent location right next to the A1.

With expansion in mind, ACL took on a brand-new 8,500 sq ft building which could be configured the way we wanted. The first laboratory was electrical, covering DC/LF and partial RF, and was accredited by UKAS early in 1991. The pressure and force laboratory was added in 1993 and the dimensional laboratory in 1995.

ACL is owned by its working directors and is wholly committed to providing an independent local calibration service (although customers from as far away as Peterhead in Scotland and Portsmouth in the South of England regularly use our services), both in-house and on-site at customers' premises. We believe in becoming involved with our customers, understanding their differing needs and tailoring our service to each customer's operating conditions. Indeed, we now manage the entire inventory for a number of major customers, working with them as their calibration partner but with the advantage of being able to retain an independent view-point.
